SHELLEY RUSSETS STATE CHAMPS!!! The team headed over to Boise last Wednesday to start the championship games. They played Thursday night against Kimberly and won-which meant we would play Friday afternoon against Priest River....which would determine if we would go play for the state title the following day.
Priest River was a close game and one of the most memorable for Alex-he got to play!!! For those of you who don't know-he tore his ACL at the beginning of the season and has been just sitting on the bench cheering his team on. But, the coach had made a promise to him that if by some chance the other team got a technical call, he would put Alex in to make the free-throws. Well, Friday night....Priest River got a technical!!!! Coach Hadley put Alex in and the crowd went WILD!!! No pressure Alex! All of the family was crying, cheering, jumping up and down-we were just so excited that Alex could finally play!! I can't even imagine what Alex was feeling! He did miss his first shot, but made the second one-putting the team way ahead with about 2 min to go! We won!!! WAHOO!!!!
Once Alex came out of the locker room, he was all smiles..and some tears! He was jus so happy and everyone was happy for him! (I'm tearing up just re-telling the story). I know it's a night that Alex will never forget!
Saturday we played against Fruitland Grizzlies. The first quarter we were up by only 3 pts. and by half time we were up by 2! It went back and forth like that the whole time! We would make a 3, Fruitland would make a 3....by 2nd half Shelley really got their game on! About 3min left of the game we were up by about 7 pts! Final score: Fruitland 48 Shelley 57!!!!
STATE CHAMPS!!!! Way to go guys! You all had an awesome year!!!!
